The Reality

We feel it’s necessary to explain why we have chosen to undertake this project. During Umbrellastudios’ start up period, it is vital that we attain the relevant understanding and knowledge to fully equip us within the audio and visual industry. We see it as a strategic move, to train within our specific fields to gain the appropriate guidance and tools to carry out a successful and creative project.

It is imperative to accomplish the experience and support regarding the practice side of the project. The course in Plymouth is geared towards individuals who wish to be creative and innovative with film, and who also wish to challenge their concepts and visions. This is what attracted us to this course knowing that we would be able to, with a lot of hard work achieve a low budget feature length presentation, purely driven by high concept, character, story, vision, and strategy.

We believe strongly that this course and project will help us to develop a uniqueness and style that will set us apart from our competitors, who base 90% of their creativity on star casting and excessive budgets. Our reality is that most of our lives we have had the natural aptitude and desire to fulfil the passions of our heart, which lies right within the hardships, strains, pains, hopes, circumstances, struggles, mindsets, faiths, beliefs, successes and dreams, of 21st century youth culture.

There is a serious need to develop black talent in Britain and we take this very seriously. For the past three years we have been working in Birmingham on a small scale to provide opportunities for young black African and African Caribbean youths.  As well as developing our own careers, we have engaged with the wider community by using our talents to innovate, create and inspire across the North of England.

For instance, as head of drama for the Aston Performing Arts Academy, writing, producing and directing drama projects annually to provide an opportunity for young people to articulate their concerns and formulate solutions to the problems of urban decay and violence, and also as the head of music at “Young disciples”, a vibrant youth organization based in Lozells.

However, as it stands, we are now ready to take this journey to the next level so we and the wider community can experience and be a part of a revolutionary period despite the lack of outlets and support geared towards the super diverse sector. We are in a position now as super diverse individuals where we have the opportunity to run with a vision by any means necessary.

Our reality is that we need the financial support from anyone who wishes to join in on the venture and help towards the future development of Umbrellastudios in order for us to move forward into the next dimension of our strategic progress. Time is not on our side; however we are extremely determined to equip ourselves with all the necessities that will enable us to fulfil our purpose and our mission.
